General
Information about Your Trophy Salmon & Halibut Fishing
Trip 2010
This memorandum will serve
as a check list of things to bring and things not to bring
and other miscellaneous items for your upcoming fishing trip
at HAKAI LODGE. Please make sure that each member of your
group reads this memorandum before departure.
THINGS TO
BRING
Camera and film. Internet
devices OK. Limited WiFi available.
Rain gear, including
waterproof foot gear, ankle height only, no waders.
All fishing tackle is provided
at no charge, but if you have a favorite salmon reel, bring it
along; we recommend a Penn 209 or comparable reel with 30 pound
test line. No tackle boxes please. Clothing is generally very
informal. Temperatures are cool averaging 55-70 degrees.
Liquor— Canadian Customs Law
allows each person to bring 40 ounces of
Alcoholic beverage duty free.
We have beer and wine for sale at the camp.
IDENTIFICATION for CUSTOMS CLEARANCE
Because of the new Federal
Security Regulations you
MUST
bring your passport or you will be denied entry back to the US.
More detailed information is available on the following
websites.
Also Shane Carlson at
Northwest Seaplanes has researched this subject and can be
of further help with questions about Customs. You can
contact Shane at 1-800-690-0086.
THINGS NOT TO
BRING
Suitcases—please use duffel
bags. Suitcases do not fit on the airplane; (weight limit is
25 pounds per person). The primary reason for this limit is
safety and to provide space for your fish on the return trip.
Fishing tackle and tackle boxes—we provide everything you will
need. (See above recommendations if you want to bring your own
reel.)
Cellular phones, there is no
service in our area. Satellite phones work fine.
YOUR STAY IN
THE SEATTLE AREA
If you or others in your group
live outside the Seattle area, you will probably want to stay
overnight in the Seattle area the night before your departure to
Hakai. We have made arrangements with the Hilton Garden Inn and
the adjoining “Suites” hotel the Larkspur Landing for Hakai
Lodge guests again this summer. The two hotels are side by side
and are close to both the Seattle International Airport (Sea-Tac)
and the Renton Municipal Airport (where the charter planes
depart each morning at approximately 7:30) make your own hotel
reservations as early as possible as hotel space is limited. The
name, address and telephone numbers are listed in this memo.
Also, please see the enclosed letters of agreement between the
Hotels and Hakai Lodge.
Additional information—See
hotel brochure enclosed. When you arrive at the Seattle
International Airport (Sea-Tac) call 425-430-1414 for the
Hotel van. When you check in at the hotel please inform the
front desk you will need the shuttle to Renton Airport the
next morning.
Additional information—See
Hotel brochure enclosed. When you arrive at the Seattle
International Airport (Sea-Tac), call 425-235-1212 for the
Hotel van. When you check in at the hotel please inform the
front desk you will need the shuttle to Renton Airport the
next morning.
NOTE—If you are traveling
thru Vancouver instead of Seattle, please call or e-mail me
and I will help you with plane reservations and Vancouver
hotel accommodations.
DEPARTURE FROM
RENTON MUNICIPAL AIRPORT TO HAKAI
If you are staying at one of
the hotels described above, they will bring you to our departure
lounge in time for your departure. Please review your paperwork
for NW Seaplanes for exact times. (Be sure to make
arrangements with your hotel for the shuttle service when you
check in.) If you plan to drive to our departure lounge,
please follow the directions below:
Locate the Renton Airport
(Northwest Seaplanes) on the enclosed map. As you can see, our
departure lounge (Building No. 860) is in the Northwest portion
of the airport; Drive North on Rainier Avenue (see enclosed map);
proceed through the Airport Way intersection (Airport Way runs
east and west) and take the first possible RIGHT turn from
Rainier Avenue (approximately 1-1/2 miles North of Airport
Way). Immediately turn LEFT, which will put you Northbound on
the Airport Perimeter road. Take the first right (through gate
in perimeter fence). Building No. 860 (Northwest Seaplanes) is
on your right and parking is to your left.
RETURN TO
RENTON MUNICIPAL AIRPORT FROM HAKAI
The plane will leave Hakai
Lodge approximately 12:30 PM of your last day. It is scheduled
back in Seattle at approximately 5:00PM. When you land, you will
be met by a US Customs Agent, who will clear your entry back
into the United States. Northwest Seaplanes will have a van and
driver standing by to take you back to Sea-Tac International
Airport if you plan to fly home. You can plan on being back at
Sea-Tac by 6:00PM so book your homeward flight accordingly.
Remember the new security regulations now in effect.
YOUR CATCH
In accordance with Canadian
Law, each person can bring eight Salmon and three Halibut home.
This law is strictly enforced and there will be a Fisheries
Officer at Hakai Pass again this summer. The Government will
also require a fishing license which you may purchase at the
Lodge. Limits for Salmon are the same as in previous years,
(EIGHT Salmon of which FOUR can be kings and FOUR can be any
combination of other species to make your EIGHT total Salmon,
plus THREE Halibut). Please remember you can always keep EIGHT
total salmon even if all EIGHT are Coho.
As your catch accumulates
during your trip, it is stored in our large commercial
walk-in-freezer. On the day you depart Hakai you should plan to
meet with Byron Swanson to discuss how you want your catch
handled. There are several options depending on what you want
done with the fish and the route you are taking between Hakai
and your home. Byron will explain the various options and
related costs if any. In all cases we have procedures available
to accommodate whatever you want done with your catch.
OTHER
Please let us know if you plan
a birthday or anniversary party at the Lodge. There is no charge
for a special function, but our chef needs to know in advance so
we have the necessary items in the kitchen. If anyone requires a
special diet, we should also be notified as far in advance as
possible.
This memorandum has been
prepared to answer as many questions as possible.
Please go to our website
(www.hakailodge.com)
if you need additional copies. Call Clyde or Coral at
360-267-4454 if we can be of further assistance. The entire
staff at Hakai Lodge is looking forward to seeing you this
summer.
